Dorothy Dean McCrea, a cherished matriarch and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, in Denton, Texas, after 105 years of a remarkably full and abundant life. Born on January 19, 1921, in Stamford, Texas, Dorothy's life was a testament to resilience, love, and grace.
Dorothy’s journey spanned more than a century, marked by invaluable contributions to her family and friends, and a life richly lived through decades of change and growth. She is remembered with great affection and respect by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her devoted sons, Gary Lee Benningfield and Kenneth Alan Benningfield, alongside her daughter-in-law Cheryl Benningfield. Dorothy’s legacy continues vibrantly through her grandchildren Beverly (Benningfield) Theriot, Amy (Benningfield) Murphy, Emily (Benningfield) Rhodes, Lindsay (Benningfield) Phillips, Scott Schultz, and Tamara Christian. Her loving family extends to 12 great-grandchildren, with another new arrival anticipated, as well as 21 great-great-grandchildren, who embody the enduring spirit she so wholeheartedly nurtured.
Dorothy was predeceased by her parents, EL and Oma Ratliff; her sister, Marie Bradford; her brother, Richard Ratliff; her grandson, William (Billy) Schultz; and six former husbands, who were all part of her life's complex tapestry.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held on June 18, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, located at 705 N Locust St, Denton, TX 76201. Family, friends, and all whose lives Dorothy touched are invited to gather and pay their respects.
Dorothy Dean McCrea’s remarkable 105 years remain an inspiring legacy of endurance and love. Her memory will continue to thrive in the hearts of her family and all who knew her. We remember and honor a life beautifully lived, a soul deeply cherished, and a woman whose impact will not be forgotten.
