IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy "Laverne"
Elmore
October 12, 1920 – March 3, 2018
Dorothy "LaVerne" Elmore, 97, of Denton, TX passed away very peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 with both of her daughters by her side at Good Samaritan in Denton. She was born on October 12, 1920 in Killeen, TX to Oran and Minnie Ellen Bowen. She married the love of her life, Donald Dorward Elmore on November 22, 1940. They shared 48 years together. She was a faithful wife, loving mother and devoted friend. She cared deeply about the Lord and her family.
LaVerne worked for many years as a receptionist in Don's beauty shops in Midland and El Paso, and then at LTV Aerospace once they relocated to this area. After that she was very active as a volunteer; counseling young women at The Crisis Pregnancy Center, devoting many hours in the Prayer Room and helping with mailings for her church, Glory of Zion. She was also on the extended Board of Denton Aglow. She loved family time more than anything and spending Friday nights playing games or going to Gospel concerts with her friends. Music was always an important part of her life, from singing in the choir, playing the piano, and sharing the songs God gave her.
LaVerne is survived by her daughters Mignon Ward of Dallas and Renee' Miller and husband Ronny of Oak Point. She is also survived by three grandsons, Bryan Ward of Dallas, Bobby Ward of Plano, and Joel Miller and wife Kat of Round Rock, and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Don Elmore, grandson Jordan Miller and eleven siblings.
Her family would like to say a very special thank you to those at Good Samaritan who cared for her and loved on her.
