Dorothy Virginia Taylor Alderdice, age 94, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Good Samaritan Village in Denton. She was born in New Boston, Texas on June 9, 1919 to Mark E. and Mattie H. Taylor. She graduated from TSCW (now TWU) in May 1941 with a major in music education and elementary education.
She married Joseph Lloyd Alderdice, Jr. of Midlothian, Texas on October 31, 1941 in Crane, Texas where they both were teachers. During World War II they lived in New Orleans, Mobile and Connecticut. After the war was over, they returned to Texas so that Lloyd could continue his career in the public schools. Wherever they lived, Dorothy participated in the music opportunities- choir, piano or organ and usually taught school. She loved sharing her talent - especially the fun of playing "by ear". She and Lloyd moved to Denton in 1970. She has played piano for the Bungalow Class at First United Methodist Church (FMUC) for 28 years. Dorothy worked as an assistant in the College of Education at TWU until her retirement in 1983.
She is survived by her sons; Joe Alderdice and his wife Kay of Bedford, TX and Marc Alderdice and his wife Mary of Maryland, grandsons; Jeff Alderdice of Maryland and David Alderdice and wife Arlyn of Colorado; granddaughter, Kristi Sekora ,husband Dan and great-grandson Myles of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The service will be held on Monday, March 17, 2014, 3:00 PM, at First United Methodist Church , 201 S. Locust in Denton. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Interment will be at Jackson Cemetery in Krum, alongside her beloved husband of 67 years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests remembrance to the First United Methodist Church in Denton music fund or TV ministry.
