Mathis, Donald LaVerne

Born in Kankakee, IL on April 7, 1942 to LaVerne and Dorothy Mathis, passed away 

peacefully on October 6, 2007 at his home with his family around him.  Don graduated from 

North Central College in Naperville, IL and worked for Western Electric and AT&T for 25 

years.  After retiring from AT&T, Don established a contract instruction business.  Later 

in life, Don became a dedicated member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 59 holding 

staff positions at the flotilla, division, and district levels.  Don is survived by his 

wife, Jeanne, his mother Dorothy, his son Paul Mathis and wife Kirsten, his daughter 

Marcella Vaughn and husband Joe, his brother Dale Mathis and wife Deborah, his sisters 

Dianna Horan and Deborah Coleman, his granddaughters Tiffany and Marjorie Fetty, and many 

other friends and loving family.  Don was preceded in death by his father, LaVerne.  A 

memorial service will be held on October 10, 2007 at 12 noon at the Mulkey-Mason funeral 

home in Denton, TX.  Guests are welcome to share their memories of Don at the service.  

Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service.  A reception will follow at the 

Mathis home.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to:  Coast Guard
