Dixie Vernette
Hansel
October 5, 1940 – December 12, 2024
It is with the deepest sorrow that we share the news of Dixie Vernette Hansel's passing on December 12th, 2024. Dixie, born October 5th, 1940, in Tallahassee, Florida, lived a life brimming with love, dedication, and a profound impact on countless individuals.
Her 39-year career as a Kindergarten teacher at Krum Elementary School, beginning in 1972, following her graduation from Texas Woman's University, was a testament to her unwavering commitment to education. She nurtured young minds with patience and kindness, leaving an enduring legacy that is beautifully reflected in the school named in her honor – a truly remarkable achievement.
Beyond the classroom, Dixie's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of family and faith. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she possessed a selfless spirit and a compassionate heart that touched everyone she knew. Her passions extended beyond her family, encompassing her active participation in her church community, the joy of travel and cherished gatherings with friends, and the festive spirit of Christmas shopping. Her generosity was boundless, particularly evident in her long-standing support of orphaned children's education in India, a testament to her deep empathy and commitment to making a difference in the world.
Dixie's life was rich and full, a life well-lived and deeply loved. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her brother, Hal Johnson and his wife Diane; her son, Kenneth Belken and his wife Nicolle; her grandson, Blake Belken and his wife Kaitlyn; her granddaughter, Scarlett Painter and her fiancé Art Busch; and her two great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Grayson. She is also survived by three stepdaughters: Missy Tanner and her husband Joe, Jennifer Wyman and her husband Jesse, and Lori Cupp and Brandon.
