Derek Jones, Beloved son of Larry Jones, Lone Star, Texas and Karla Wiley Jones, Denton, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in Dallas, Texas after a prolonged illness.

Derek was born on January 29, 1992 in Dallas, Texas, to Karen Wiley who gave him with love to Karla and Larry through adoption in 2001. Derek moved to Denton, Texas in July, 2014 to be near his mother and aunt/birthmother, attending United Hands Dayhab.

Derek fell ill with pneumonia that became sepsis developing into Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, succumbing to his illness after five weeks in 3 ICU units and no improvement to his condition.
Derek is survived by his Mother, Karla Wiley Jones of Denton; Father, Larry Jones of Lone Star; Sister, Stephanie Kearney and her partner in life, Alex Johnson; Brother, Sean Jones; Aunt, Karen Wiley and her daughters Sophia and Olivia Bono; Grand-Mother, Janet Wiley Burns; Grand-Mother, Bonnie Adams and Aunt, Leslie Adams; Grand-Mother, Bonnie Jones; Aunt, Linda Huggins and her daughter, Wendy Huggins and Wendy's children, Madison, Kayden, and Justin; Uncle, Lewis Jones, Jr. and his wife, Sherry Jones and their sons, Ethan and Aaron Jones; Uncle, Alvin Jones and his daughters, Cousin, Erica and her children, JJ and Skyler; and Cousin, Tessa Jones; Cousin, Randy Simms and his son, Jude; Aunt Kelley Huddleston and her Husband, Junior, and Kelley's son, Ryan Jones, his Wife Britney and their children, Kaylee and Payton; Uncle Tony Jones; Aunt, Michelle Attwood and her husband, Andrew, and their son, Michael Atwood and his wife Liz; Grand-Father Gene Romano and his wife Judy, as well as a very large extended family and many friends.
Derek is remembered for his loving spirit and joyful presence. Derek proudly graduated from Daingerfield High School in 2010 and was excited to be a grown up and live on his own in group homes
He enjoyed going to Wrestling matches with his father and watching WWE. He adored Wrestler, John Cena and collected all his action figures; He enjoyed counting his money and going to Wal-Mart. Derek loved Mexican food; watching Westerns, Walker Texas Ranger, and Wheel of Fortune with Grandma Bonnie Jones; singing Country Music while riding in the car with Mom or Dad.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 16, 2016 in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N Locust, Denton, TX.
Refreshments will be served following the service at TWU Lowry Woods Community Center, 1600 Oakland St.
