Dennis Grant Maddux passed away on November 3, 2026, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was born on July 24, 1945, in Idabel, Oklahoma.
Dennis lived a life marked by service, steady work, and care for others. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1963 and served until 1967. During the Vietnam War, he was stationed in Thailand. His years in military service reflected a commitment to duty that remained a defining part of his life.
After his time in the Air Force, Dennis built a long career at Texas Woman’s University, where he worked as a Custodial Supervisor for 32 years. He was also deeply involved in his community through volunteer work, giving many years to the food pantry at First Refuge Ministries of Denton. Among the accomplishments he held with pride was his 15 years officiating high school football through the Denton and Fort Worth Chapter, a role that allowed him to contribute to the game and to the young people and communities it brought together.
Dennis will be remembered with love by his wife of 45 years, Cheryl Maddux. He is also survived by his children, Brent Maddux and girlfriend Grace of Richardson, Clint Maddux and his wife Paula of Fort Worth, and Cathy Maddux of Krum. He leaves behind his brother, Dwight Maddux of Grand Junction, Colorado; his sister-in-law, Sue Kuykendall of Denton; and Cindy Sansom and her husband, Jeff, of Denton. He was a proud grandfather to four amazing grandchildren: Rachael Maddux and Nathan Maddux, both of Fort Worth, and Grant Jones and Pate Maddux, both of Krum. Each of them was part of the family circle he cherished. Along with five nephews, three nieces, two great-nephews and three great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by parents Lewis Maddux and Lucille Pate Maddux, his brother Michael Maddux all of Fort Worth and brother-in-law Jim Kuykendall of Denton.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 9, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Denton, 1100 Malone Street, Denton, Texas 76201. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Denton.
Dennis Grant Maddux will be remembered for his service to his country, his years of faithful work, his generosity to his community, and the love he shared with his family. His memory will remain a lasting blessing to those who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Dennis' memory to support those affected by this disease and the ongoing efforts to find a cure.
