Denice A. Carlson, born June 17, 1956 went home to be with the Lord on June 8, 2005, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Denice had a warm smile and was loved by all who knew her. Denice was born in Kansas City, Kansas on June 17, 1956, and moved to Woodland, California at the age of two weeks. She was raised in Woodland and spent her childhood as an active member in the Young Life Groups.
After graduating in 1974 she married and became an Army wife, traveling extensively and spending many years in Germany. She was active in various churches where she was known as Miss Denice to the many children she taught in Sunday school. Not only did she teach young children in Sunday school, she also spent many years home schooling her own children. After moving to and making her life in Denton, she became very involved in the Southmont Baptist Church where she was employed for many years as the Church Secretary.
Denice was a loving mother who is survived by her two children, daughter Nichole Duke and her husband Lynn, and son Grant Carlson both of Denton, Texas. She is also survived by her parents Harold and Betty Roberts of Paradise, California, sister Darla O'Shea and husband George of Denton, Texas, step sister Phyllis Deats and husband Ed of Sacramento, California, Kelly Yasbeck and Gary of Sacramento, California, step brother Les Roberts of Woodland, California and her uncles Eugene Crowdis and wife Betty of Richardson, Texas, Donald Cowdis and wife Siri of Springlake, North Carolina, Russell Cowdis and wife Margaret of Ft. Worth, Texas and Edward Cowdis of Ft. Worth, Texas, and also a niece and four nephews.
Her extended family includes a young man named Marcus French, who she loved like a son, and his wife Jennifer. Denice was preceded in death by her grandparents, her father, John Moffett and her older sister Deborah Ann Snow.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A. M. Saturday, June 11, 2005 at Southmont Baptist Church, 2801 Pennsylvania Drive, Denton, TX 76205 with Dr. Larry Reynolds, officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.
