Deloyd Herschel Cork of Denton, Texas, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024, in Pleasanton, Texas, surrounded by his immediate family.
Born June 5, 1942, in Childersburg, Talladega County, Alabama, he was the son of Drucilla Stella (Pendley) and Paul H. Cork. He graduated from Hayes High School, Birmingham, Alabama in1961. He served in the United States Air Force from June 16,1961-June 30, 1981. After his retirement from the Air Force, he pursued his passion as a rancher on family land in Langtry, Val Verde County, Texas, until sold in 1988. He then pursued a career as a licensed water engineer in the field of utility management. He then worked in the field of water operations management. He did this for several districts throughout Texas. This career choice led to the inception of a partnership of father and son creating the D&J Inspections, a complete utility management company. He managed the company until semi-retirement in 2012 then continuing to consult until full retirement.
In June,1962 he married Barbara Gaskins.
Deloyd met and married the love of his life, Darlene Louise Billings, October 11, 1972. She preceded him in death August 24th, 2007. They will be reunited and laid to rest at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
On February 13, 2009, he married his loving wife and companion, Shirley Chaffin Down. She preceded him in death June 10, 2017.
Dee, as he was so reverently called, will fondly be remembered for his love of family, watching westerns and the History Channel, and following his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2205. He will lovingly be remembered by his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a good and generous friend and neighbor and loved life to its fullest.
Dee is survived by 8 children: Deloyd Cork Jr ( Cynthia, deceased) of Houston, Tx, Sarah D Cork (Mike) Flynt, of Houston, Tx, Paul (Susan) Cork of Houston, Tx, Ronald (Carol) Cork of Houston, Tx, Carol Jean (Shannon) Casey of Round Rock, Tx, Tisha Maurine Cork (AC) Deck III of Devine, Tx, Crystal Michelle Cork of Denton, Tx and Jason Thomas Lee Cork of Arlington, Tx.
Surviving him also are 25 grandchildren. His grandchildren are: (Deloyd's) Ashley, Gabriella, Joseph, Samuel, DeLoyd lll, (Sarah's) Kasey and Seth, (Paul's) Christopher and Caitlyn, (Ronald's) Tyler and Hunter, (Carol's) Heather, Ashley, Ryan, Camron, Samatha and Jack, (Tisha's) Brandon, Kristi, Haley, Kortney and Kody, (Crystal's) Aidan and Aslynn and (Jason's) Piper.
His 21 great grandchildren include: (DeLoyd's) Brentley, Brayden and Hudson, (Sarah's) Riley and Caddo, (Ronald's) Dallas and Steele, (Carol's) Conway, Branson, Finley, Madeline and Emery, (Tisha's) Logan, Lacey, Levy, Payton, Brentley and Riley.
He is also survived by his sister Pauline Cork Scott, nephews Darren Paul Scott and Thaddeus Darrell Scott and nieces Kari Lynn Scott and Emily Kathryn Scott (Jeff) Killingsworth and two great nieces Janna and Lynn Killingsworth.
In Death he will rejoin his father and mother, Paul H. and Drucilla Cork and beloved wives, Darlene and Shirley.
Military Honors will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at 1:45 P.M at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery - (846), 1520 Harry Wurzbach Road, San Antonio, Texas 78209.
