Delore Smith Brooks, age 84 of Denton, died December 12, 2013 at Texas Health Presbyterian Denton Hospital. Mrs. Brooks was born January 19, 1929 in Dallas, Texas to Marvin Leslie and Maye Brumley Smith. She graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas with honors, and attended Southern Methodist University, the University of Texas at Arlington, and the University of North Texas.
She met her future husband, Joe Fowler Brooks, at UT Arlington (then NTAC) and they were married May 8, 1948 at Calvary Baptist Church in Dallas. Mr. Brooks preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brooks served as secretary at the Presbyterian Synod office, to Chief of Police Wayne Autry at the Denton Police Department, to Dr. Mary Evelyn Huey in the Graduate Office at TWU; and the last thirteen years before retirement as the bookkeeper for the Denton Chamber of Commerce.
She was a member of the Sans Savie Social Club at UTA; President of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Big Spring, Texas; and President-Elect of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority in Arlington, Texas.
Mrs. Brooks was a past member and teacher at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.
Delore has five children, two daughters – Tamera Joe Grossman and her husband Robert of Haltom City; and Rebecca Mae Fuller of Denton; three sons – Kerry Alan Brooks and wife, Carla, of Carrollton; Jeffrey Lee Brooks of Royse City; and Richard Dale Brooks and wife Lanee of Flower Mound; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A private graveside ceremony will be held at I.O.O.F. cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Emily Fowler Public Library or your favorite charity.
