IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Lynn
Pope
February 21, 1948 – June 3, 2025
David Lynn Pope passed away peacefully in his sleep on the evening of June 3, 2025. David was born February 21, 1948 in Pittsburgh, TX. He grew up in Irving, where he attended Irving High School and graduated in 1966. While earning his BA in History at the University of Texas at Arlington, he met his future bride, Charlotte Deming Pope. They married in August 1970 and made their home in Irving. In June 1977, they had their only child, Jason.
In 2007, David & Charlotte moved from Irving to Justin to be closer to their grandchildren. David was very proud of his involvement and contributions to Boy Scouts of America, serving many years as the Scoutmaster of Troop 137 in Irving, and later becoming a founding member and committee member of Troop 931 in Justin, serving alongside his son while his grandson was in the troop. He was proud to tell people that he was the father and grandfather of Eagle Scouts. David was also incredibly proud of his sobriety of 44 years. He was always willing to share his story and his absolute support of the AA program to anyone that needed help.
David is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Charlotte, their son Jason, daughter-in-law Vicki Moore Pope, and grandchildren Katherine and Matthew Pope. Other survivors include his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Andy and Karen Raney and their daughter Kelly and her family. He is preceded in death by his parents Martin and Syble Pope and brother Jerry Surratt.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2025 in the chapel of Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust St., Denton. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service beginning.
