On February 15 ^th , 2022, David (Butch) Austin, earned his eternal wings after a courageous battle with an unexpected illness.

Dave was born in Ft. Madison, Iowa on September 16 ^th , 1961. He spent the majority of his youth in Oelwein, Iowa where he met the love of his life, Debra (Goldsmith) Austin. They were united in marriage on February 23 ^rd , 1979.   Dave's greatest source of joy was spending time with his family going hiking, fishing, riding motorcycles, bike riding, and taking them flying. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, devotion, knowledge, and the ability to reach any goal.

Dave had an extensive list of accomplishments, interests, and hobbies. He had a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, was a dirt bike enthusiast, and raced motorcycles. In 1987, Dave joined the Irving Fire Department and had recently retired after 32 years as a Firefighter/EMT. Dave's greatest passion was flying and began his career in 1993. He would go on to become a Contract Pilot, Flight Instructor, and was A & P Certified. From 1998 – 2002 he was an Instructor Pilot for Simuflite International. At the time of his passing, he was a fixed-wing pilot for Careflight and was recently certified as a Designated Pilot Examiner. Dave was a great mentor and friend to everyone in his career fields.

Dave is survived by his wife Debra, daughters; Shawna Austin (Jayden, Justin, Jordyn, and Zari) of Mississippi and Emily (Blake) Schopper (Brantley, Rosie, Aubrey, Axxel, and Austin) of Texas. His brothers Tim Austin (California) and Larry Austin (Texas), and sister Sheri Austin (Texas). His father-in-law & mother-in-law, Brice & Norma Goldsmith (Iowa), and many other family members.

Dave was preceded in death by; His mother and stepfather; Don & Vivan Middlebrooks, grandparents; Verle & Lois Richardson, and brother Richard Pugh.

The family will be honoring Dave with a service at Denton Bible Church on March 14 ^th at 2pm.
