Obituary for Darrell Raymond Pitt Jr.
June 26, 1943 – November 13, 2025

With full hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, the family of Darrell Raymond Pitt Jr. announces his peaceful passing on November 13, 2025. Born on June 26, 1943, to Darrell Pitt Sr. and Vada Irene Brown, Darrell grew into a man defined by loyalty, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.

Darrell is survived by his sister, Sue Broyles, and husband Earl Broyles, sister-in-law Linda Pitt, and his children: Robin Jackson Berry and husband Frank Berry, Stephanie Slater, Daniel Pitt and wife Edna Pitt Melo, and ex-wife Sue Pitt. He had four grandchildren: Stephen Jackson, Tyrell Slater, Cody Slater, and Morgan Pitt.

Darrell proudly served his country in the United States Navy, carrying with him the discipline, humility, and camaraderie that shaped the rest of his life. After returning home, he built a long and steady career with the United States Postal Service, serving as a postman for 34 years. He was deeply involved in the postal union, advocating for his coworkers with the same determination and integrity he brought to every part of his life.

Following retirement, Darrell continued serving his community through his work as a beloved bus driver for Denton Christian Preschool, where he spent 23 joyful years. The children adored him, and he cherished every wave, smile, and excited greeting as he safely carried little ones to school each day. He became a familiar and comforting presence—someone the children, their families, and his coworkers looked forward to seeing.

Though not a man of many hobbies, he found simple joy in the things he loved most: a perfectly grilled steak, College and NFL football, the Cowboy Channel on a quiet afternoon, and time spent with the people who mattered to him. Family was the center of his world.

He especially treasured his Colombian family and made two memorable trips to Colombia—a place that broadened his heart and deepened his connections. His daughter-in-law, Edna Pitt Melo, held a very special place in his life. He loved her dearly, and she brought him great joy.

He also leaves behind the many friends, coworkers, and young lives he touched, each carrying a piece of his quiet generosity and steady kindness.

Among all, his son Daniel will feel his absence most profoundly, holding close the bond they shared.

Darrell's life was not loud or grandiose—it was steady, gentle, and filled with genuine care for others. He gave of himself freely, served faithfully, and loved wholeheartedly. His legacy lives on in every life he enriched.

He will be deeply missed, remembered tenderly, and honored always.
