Prof. Dr. Dallas Lynn Lacy, 90, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, in Oakland, California, after a brief illness.
The burial took place at Denton's Roselawn Memorial Park under the direction of the Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home of Denton, Texas, with the immediate family present.
Dallas was born July 10, 1935, in Stamford, Texas, to Beri and Billie Lacy. He attended public schools in Abilene and received a Bachelor of Science at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, a Master of Literature at North Texas State University and a PhD in English Literature at Louisiana State University in 1967.
Dallas married Quetha Jo Bell in Denton on June 23, 1962. From 1967 until his retirement in 2005, Dallas taught English at UTA. During this time he held many positions and won awards for excellence in teaching and advising.
Dallas was a member of First Baptist Church of Arlington for many years and was a deacon as well as teaching Sunday school classes for different age groups.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, Beri and Billie Lacy, by his wife Jo and by his daughter, Jane Elizabeth Lacy. Survivors: sons, John Lacy and wife, Jenny Craik, of Albany, Calif., and Jim Lacy and wife, Katharina Lacy, of Hamburg, Germany; granddaughter, Emily Opal Craik-Lacy of Albany, Calif.; brother-in-law, James Ledon Bell and wife, Yvonne Bell, of the Green Valley Community; sister-in-law Jane Ray of the Green Valley Community; nieces, Melody Mitchell of Santa Cruz, Calif., Jo Allison Box and husband, Steve Box, of Dallas and Jamie Cole and husband, Clark Cole, of Weatherford; by great-nieces/nephews Stephanie Box O'Neil, Alexa Box, Blake Box, Whitney Yienger, Tyler Cole, Mary-Robin Clerke, Abby Rohlmeier and Grace McCleskey.
The family would like to thank the staff members and the many friends among the residents at the El Cerrito Royale retirement community.
