IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Curlen Argo
Smithers
February 1, 1934 – April 11, 2025
Curlen Argo Smithers, age 91 of Carthage, passed away peacefully into her loving Savior's arms with loved ones by her side on April 11, 2025. She was born on February1, 1934, to Velton Lee Argo and Alene (Dunn) Argo in Denton, Tx.
Curlen married her first husband, Marion Harper, on December 28, 1948, and with this marriage she had a daughter, Debbie Harper-Roberts. She then married Bobby Glen Smithers on January 16, 1959, and had two sons, Jeffrey Cole Smithers and Joel Kirk Smithers.
She went to work for Moore's Business Forms at a very early age of 17 years old and worked for them in Denton, TX and Nacogdoches, TX and was able to retire at the age of 55. She loved to paint and to do pottery. She was always the first to step up as a caretaker for her family, and after her second husband, Bob, passed away from MS in1971, she stepped up as a father and mother figure to both of her boys, providing for them in every way possible. She never met a stranger and those who knew her loved her. She was a kind, loving woman and an absolute hoot to be around with an amazing sense of humor. She will be missed greatly.
Curlen lived in Denton until the age of 50, when she moved to Carthage, TX. She lived there until 2024 and then she moved into her daughter's home.
She leaves behind her daughter, Debbie Harper-Roberts of Collinsville, TX, two sons, Cole Smithers (Tamara) of Springer, OK, and Kirk Smithers (Janet) of Carthage, TX. Twelve grandchildren, Randy Roberts (Kim) of Pilot Point, TX, Cody Smithers (Erin) of Denton, TX, Kaylen Johnson (Thunder) of Whitesboro, TX, Amber Wing (Mike) of Denton, TX, Joseph Smithers (Ashley) of Denton, TX, Chad Kremmer (Tabitha) of Katy, TX, Curlen Barger (Donovan) of Collinsville, TX, Josh Smithers (Erica) of Henderson, TX, Anna Pickens (Steven) of Ardmore, OK, Julia Smithers, Norlynn Smithers, and Joanna Smithers, all from Carthage, TX. Twenty-three great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren (and one on the way); and a cousin (the closest thing to a sister she had), Claudine Argo-Elkins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Velton and Alene Argo, first husband, Marion Harper, second husband, Bob Smithers, son-in-law, Charles Roberts, grandson Chuck Roberts, numerous aunts and uncles and her cousin Marylou Argo-Sanders.
