Crillon Payne II, 63 of Galveston, died Sunday, June 18, 2006 in Galveston. He was born May 28, 1943 in Oneida, NY to Crillon and Kate (Evers) Payne. He graduated from Denton High School in 1961, from Texas Tech University in 1965 ant the University of Texas Law School in 1968. He was then appointed a Special Agent in the FB.I. and served in several offices during his eight years in the Bureau. Following this service, Mr. Payne opened the Crested Butte Title Company in Crested Butte, Colo.
With a desire to return to his native Texas, he provided General Law Service for several state agencies and was named General Counsel to John Sharp in the Comptroller of Public Accounts Office. In February 1993, Mr. Payne was named Director of the Department of Legal Affairs at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He was still in this position at the time of his death
He is survived by his father, Crillon Payne of Denton; and his dear friend, Laura Ford of Galveston.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 30, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone St,. Denton, with Rev. Cliff Feeler, Dr. Jeff Williams, and Kent Hance, officiating. Memorials may be made to The University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston, TX or the Charity of your choice.
