For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Clarence Leon Carter
June 4, 1942 • May 7, 2022 • Denton, Texas
Leon Carter, 79, left this earthly life to be united with his Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Good Samaritan Lake Forest Village, Denton, Texas. He was a favorite of the staff who took very good care of him.
Leon was born in Madera, California on June 4, 1942. As a young child his family lived in West Texas, New Mexico and then the small mining town of Gabbs, Nevada where he attended high school and played on the football and basketball teams. It was there that he decided to join the Navy and was assigned to the then new aircraft carrier the USS Constellation. He enjoyed his time on this carrier and trained to be an aircraft engine mechanic and that began his many years working in the aircraft industry. He studied and received the aircraft and power plant license while working at Bell Helicopter, Hurst, Texas and was sent to Vietnam to work there with the Army during the war. Bell also sent him to Alabama and Maryland during his employment with them. During this time he met and married Mary Pryor on November 27, 1965 and had two sons, Michael born in Enterprise, Alabama and Joseph born in Irving, Texas.
In the early 70s he was able to experience international travel as his helicopter experience helped him work for companies based in Malaysia and Singapore and supporting oil companies drilling in Indonesia, Borneo and Sarawak where he lived in remote jungle villages and would fly back to family when off duty. The family enjoyed the experience of living in these interesting places. Once the family returned to the U.S. he went to work for Piper aircraft as a 5-State Regional Representative based at the Denton Airport.
Later on he became a carpenter working in construction building houses, apartment complexes and one of his favorite experiences was building sets for the 1984 Republican Convention at the Dallas Convention Center. For leisure he loved westerns especially starring John Wayne and watching the Dallas Cowboys and theTexas Rangers.
After moving to Denton in 1974 Leon and Mary and sons joined Denton Christian Church and over time he became the church treasurer and other jobs in the church wherever he was needed. He also visited the elderly and served the Lord's Supper to them every Sunday as possible in their homes or assisted living facilities. He served as Elder and serving the Lord and his church brought the most joy to him.
Leon is preceded in death by his father Curtis Lee Carter, mother Maudie Lee Wilson (Carter) Keller and stepfather Casper "Cap" Keller, brothers Darvin T. Carter and Billy Joe Carter
