Charles Byron Wood, Jr.

January 18, 1954- March 7,2022

Charles B. Wood, Jr. (68) went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 7, 2022. He courageously fought for 3 months to make a comeback from a massive stroke caused by a recently diagnosed heart issue which doctors ultimately could not fix.

Charlie was born in Dallas, TX to Charles B. Wood, Sr. and Norma (Moore) Wood, and was a big brother to one sibling, Tony Wood. He graduated from W. T. White High School (Dallas) with accolades in football. He earned a Bachelor of Art's degree in Political Science, and a master's degree in Public Administration from the University of North Texas.

He met his wife, Rhonda Kay Averitte, in Carrollton, TX at the home of mutual friends. They had a long-distance courtship while Charlie served as a missionary for 3 years with Youth With A Mission (YWAM) in Germany. He became fluent in the German language. They married in 1978 and returned to live in Germany for the next 7 years. Their two sons, Michael and Aaron, were both born in Frankfurt, Germany.

Charlie's personality was outgoing and friendly. He was genuinely interested in others. He put God first in his life and was often asked to teach the Word of God or preach a sermon. Charlie loved being around family. He was a faithful and loving husband, a caring father, and a fun-to-be-around "Poppy" to his grandchildren, Zoe and Dylan. He had a great voice and enjoyed singing in the church choir and a gospel quartet. He also looked forward to hunting season each year and to every opportunity to go hiking. He kept up with current events and was a history buff. Charlie loved to travel and see new places. He traveled extensively in Europe. When he was in his mid-twenties, he was privileged to help lead a team of German Bible School students on a field trip across the Sahara Desert. The next big trip he wanted to take was an African Safari.

In 1996, he convinced his wife to join him in becoming business owners. They bought the florist where Rhonda was working at the time, Bloomfield Floral (Denton). In the course of 25 years, it "blossomed" into a successful business by the grace of God. Rhonda designed floral arrangements and managed the shop, while Charlie kept the books and hand delivered the flowers, always with a friendly smile.

Charlie will be greatly missed and remembered for his life well-lived. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rhonda Wood of Denton, his sons Michael Wood (Amy) of Plano, Aaron Wood (Lindsay) of New Braunfels, brother Tony Wood (Judy) of Richardson, grandchildren Zoe Wood, and Dylan Wood, his father Charles Wood, Sr. of Farmers Branch, and a host of extended family and dear friends who loved him a lot. His mother, Norma Wood entered Heaven the day before Charlie.
