Obituary

Charles Avery Perkins, age 87 was born on March 28, 1935 in Eustace, Texas went home to be with the Lord on June 9, 2022. Our Mother was joyously there welcoming him home. Just as our lives were so greatly enriched by Dad, so too is heaven.

You have left us peaceful memories; you will always be at our side and in our hearts.

He was the youngest of nine (9) boys and son of Enoch Perkins and Lillie C. Belle (Gatlin) Perkins.

Charles married his love-at-first-sight wife Julia Ann Perkins on September 27, 1957; celebrating 64 years together. Their love and commitment was an amazing example to us all. He devoted 64 years of taking care of our Mom. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, selflessness, and courage in the face of enormous adversity.

Charles graduated from Eustace High School in 1953 with a college scholarship to play basketball for Henderson County Junior College. Shared his passion for the game later in life coaching little league basketball. He even tried his hand at coaching little league softball.  He was a great mentor. He had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. The love of the game remained his whole life. Looked forward to March Madness and watching Pistol Pete, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson.

Charles started his 30+ career with the US Postal Service as a mail carrier in 1962; working his way to Superintendent of Mail in 1972. He then helped jump start The Colony Post Office in the early 80's; retiring to start his new job as full-time Poppy.

One of the highlights of his life was becoming a grandfather. He made sure his family and grandchildren were a priority. You would not find a more proud Pawpaw. He attended every sporting event, concert, field or camping trip, performance or event ensuring that each of his grandchildren felt supported by their Poppy or Mawmaw.

He loved singing with the grands teaching them at an early age the old tunes of Hank Williams, George Jones and Charley Pride. Playing games; even watching their favorite cartoons.

They took great pride watching them grow up and become successful; and never minded bending your ear on their greatness.

The true treasure of a man is the legacy he leaves to a world forever changed by his presence.

Charles was a devoted follower of Christ and loved the Lord. He served as a deacon and children's Sunday School teacher for 30+ years. He had a passion sharing the word of God and loved studying the many missionary journeys of Paul. In 1960 he was recognized by the State of Texas as Director of the Royal Ambassador program at Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington, Texas; soon moving his teachings to First Baptist Church Lewisville, Texas. Taught RA's for 25 years. Was also named as Director at Camp Copass in Denton, Texas where again ministered to many young men the word of God.

He studied and read the Bible daily with Mom and lived by example. He loved working math problems with his grandchildren and spent countless hours helping them with their homework. He could also sit down with a good Sudoku book and never ceased to amaze us on figuring it all out. You could definitely catch him watching a good western, or reruns of Bonanza or Gunsmoke.

A Godly man, our Dad, was one who put emphasis on his own integrity; used his words wisely; worked hard; devoted himself to God and gave without complaint

He is preceded in death by his parents and eight (8) brothers Raymond, Kenneth, Eulan, Warren, Oboe, Archie, Emmit and Jody Perkins.

Survived by son Joel Avery Perkins, daughter Natalie (Tim) Weaver, grandchildren Kaylie Weaver (Bryte Henry), Krista Weaver, Kollin (Libby) Weaver. And many nieces and nephews.

Family will say their farewell privately. We are grateful for the thoughts and prayers.

1 Timothy 6:11
But thou O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness.

1 Corinthians 16:13
Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.
