Col. Charles L. (Bill) Musgrave, USAF Ret. 96, of San Antonio, formerly of Denton, passed away on January 16, 2009 at his home. He was born August 15, 1912 in Blum, Texas. He was married to Bernice (Petie) Lyon on October 19, 1942 in Denver, Colorado. She died November 29, 2000. He was a graduate of Oklahoma State University. He entered active duty in 1936. He served with the 7th Air Force in the Pacific 1943-45, including Saipan, Okinawa and Ie Shima. He became a Group Commander in 1946 and was assigned Assistant Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Tech Training Command in 1947 at Scott AFB. He graduated from Air Command and Staff College in 1949. He commanded the Tech Training Group at Francis E. Warren AFB until 1952. He served in Hawaii on Staff of CINCPAC in intelligence duties. From 1956-59 he was assigned Inspector General of the National Security Agency at Fort Meade, Maryland. He served as an Air Force ROTC Area Commandant from 1962-64 and Vice Commandant until 1968. He earned 21 service medals, including two Legion of Merit medals and a Bronze Star twice. He was retired from the U. S. Air Force with 36 years of active duty in 1968. He moved to Denton where he was manager of University House and the College Inn. He was a member of the St. David Episcopal Church. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, with Full Military Honors, and with Rev. Misty Closs, officiating, at Roselawn Memorial Park. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, TX 76201 in charge of arrangements. Col. Musgrave is survived by two daughters: Melanie M. Hause and her husband Jerry of San Antonio; and Janette Bibby of Austin; and a son: Michael Lyon Musgrave of Austin; and five grandchildren: Kevin Hause and his wife Christina of New York, Jason Hause of San Antonio, Jennifer Dupre of Baton Rouge, Josephine Bibby of Dallas and Sean Bibby.
