Cecil Estelle Pitt, 99, of Denton, died Friday, February 13, 2015 at Denton Good Samaritan Village.
Mr. Pitt was born on September 3, 1915 in Denton County to John A. and Myrtle (Clements) Pitt. He was married to Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Hunter on June 19, 1939 in Cleburne. She died in 1976. He later married Mary Frances Felts on October 29, 1977. She died in 1989. He attended school in Double Oak and served in the United States Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Welch Street Church of Christ, where he served as a Deacon for many years. He worked for many years as a custodian in the Denton Independent School District and co-owned Pitt Brothers Grocery with his brother Darrell. Cecil was an original board member and organizer of the North Texas State Fair Association.
He is survived by his daughter, Betty Grimes and her husband Dale of Azle; sons, Robert Pitt and his wife Bronwen of Denton, John Pitt and his wife Anita of Bryan; sisters, Louise Price of Denton and Gladys Sims of Livermore, CA; grandchildren, Wade Grimes and his wife Jillian, Grae Grimes, Shannon Pitt, Jared Pitt, Jessica Pitt; great grandchildren, Case Pitt, Brooklynn Williams. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Taylor and brother, Darrell Pitt.
The visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the funeral home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 Monday, February 16, 2015 in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
