Carolyn Ann Lightfoot Smith
May 31, 1943 - October 12, 2024
Carolyn passed peacefully into her heavenly home after a long series of medical complications and illness'. She leaves behind her devoted husband and lifelong partner of 62 years, William Douglas Smith (Doug) who she met on a windswept beach in Galveston Texas shortly after graduating from Bryan Adams High School in 1961. After marrying, Carolyn decided to leave her studies at East Texas College to take up the role of wife and soon a young mother in Plano and then Garland, Texas where she and Doug raised their family of 3 daughters. Carolyn worked as a preschool teacher and volunteered with the Young Homemakers of Texas serving for a period as President.
Doug took a job that relocated the family to Southern California in 1976. Doug had to go ahead of the family and Carolyn oversaw the movers and then drove the family dog and three young daughters across the country in a white Pinto wagon. Bravery would be an apt adjective for her as she never backed down from a challenge.
Carolyn worked as a sales and marketing rep for Nolan Paper Supply and then decided to complete her studies and earned her degree in design in 1986 from Fullerton College.
Carolyn's passion centered around design, decorating and crafts and she could make anything look like a million bucks on a shoestring budget. In another relocation to Northern California, Carolyn fulfilled her design aspirations by owning a successful design and decorating business, Cottages and Castles, in Tracey, CA for several years. Another relocation sent her and Doug to Ocean Springs, MS where Carolyn designed and built a lovely home only to watch it wash away in hurricane Katrina in 2005. After she rebuilt that home, she and Doug returned to Northern California for a period of time until Doug retired and they settled in Denton, TX to be near family.
In Denton, Carolyn was Queen of several Red Hat groups, started a home-accessories business, Chez Chic, and enjoyed hosting friends and family. She is survived by her husband, Doug, her 3 daughters, Cindy Smith (Mike) of Vero Beach, FL, Cheryl Davis/Smith of Denison, TX and Chari Scott (Dave) of Denton, TX and 7 grandchildren; Jordan Smith, Cade and Colton Scott, Brianna Davis Davey, Sarah Davis Reynolds, Hannah and Bekah Davis, and her brother, Lee Lightfoot of McKinney, TX. She is predeceased by her parents Cecil and Lasca Lightfoot and her grandson, Joshua Davis. Her family along with her cherished dogs, Nicki and Cody will miss her greatly.
