Carolyn Elizabeth Goode Garcia, age 83 of Denton passed away at her daughter's home in Roxton, Texas. She was born in Denton May 25, 1923 to Robert Rhea "Buck" and Helen (Taylor) Goode. She married Antonio (Tony) Garcia, June 7, 1942, in Denton. Tony passed away June 5, 2005. Elizabeth attended Denton County Schools, NTSC Demonstration High School, earned her B.S. and M.S. at University of North Texas with additional Graduate Work at Texas Woman's University in early childhood, and served on six accreditation teams with the Texas Education Agency to colleges and universities. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton, Women's Club, AAUW, Gadabouts Travel Club, Oaks Garden Club, Denton Quilt Club, and worked for 15 years with the International English language development. She was a primary school teacher for twenty-nine years in Fort Worth, Farmington, Michigan, and United Laredo Schools, and an adjunct teacher at Wayland Baptist University for three years. She served as Sunday School teacher for over fifty years.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 30, 2006, at the Cindy Nichols Chapel of the First Baptist Church, 1100 Malone St., Denton, with Rev. Lance Johnson, Dr. Wayne Blankenship and Chaplain Paul McKay officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Dennis Lipstraw, Jerry Walton, Erazmo Fonseca, Daniel Donaldson, and Steve Glasgow, and great-grandson Korey Nicholson. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church International Ministry, 1100 Malone St., Denton, TX 76201. The family will be at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, for visitation from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Friday, December 29, 2006.
Mrs. Garcia is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth (Libby) and Nick Nicholson of Denton, and Louise and Henry Lipstraw of Roxton; brother Ben Taylor Goode of Brownwood, and two sisters, Mary Helen Corley of Dike, and Virginia Rhea Gibson, of Palestine; also ten grandchildren, Karen, Diana, Amy, Dennis, David, Gena, Christina, Lisa, Lee Ann, and Steve, thirteen great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, George Garcia and a sister Sarah Rebecca Wallace.
