Obituary

Bruno Ponce Diaz, age 95, of Denton, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.  Born October 6, 1915 in Caracol, Vera Cruz, Mexico to Celso Ponce and Maria Diaz Ponce, Bruno leaves behind his beloved wife of 68 years, Eugenia C. de Ponce.  They were married September 14, 1940 in Aldama, Tamaluipas, Mexico.  Bruno was a retired municipal worker with the City of Denton Water Department, having received the Award of Honor in recognition and appreciation for the completion of 30 years of loyal service.  He took pride in the fact that he was a naturalized American citizen who looked forward to voting at each election.

He leaves behind three children:  Gilbert and wife Beryle of Atlanta, GA, Santiago "Sandy" and wife Dolly of Carrollton, and Abelardo "Lalo" and wife Linda of Campton Hills, IL.  He also leaves behind 6 granchildren:  Kristina, David and John of Atlanta, GA, Cynthia and Sonia of Carrollton, and Logan of Campton Hills, IL.

Bruno was an avid fisherman.  After his retirement, he spent countless days on the lake looking for the perfect fishing hole.  He often took his grandchildren fishing with him and his beloved wife always knew what they were having for dinner when he walked into the house with the day's catch and proudly said, "Look what I caught!"

He was also an avid gardener. He went to great lengths to prevent the squirrels, birds and moles from eating his tomatoes, peppers, pecans, okra  and anything else he felt like growing.

Gone is the man who found humor in just about anything, who provided for his entire family, and who had a great wealth of knowledge.  However, he will always be in the hearts of those he loved and will continue to inspire us to achieve our dreams.
