Brian James Jensen of Denton died at his home on May 24, 2022 after 25 months of a brave fight with glioblastoma.
Brian was born in Watford City, N.D., in 1954, to Delmar and Helen Jensen, the third of their five children. They settled in Baker, MT where Brian graduated from high school. After moving to Texas, he became a volunteer firefighter for Howard County and then a Big Spring firefighter in 1988. He was one of the first Paramedics for the Department and later served as EMS Director. In 2000, he was named Fire Chief for the City of Big Spring, serving for 12 years. That year he also began a 20-year battle with prostate cancer, which metastasized and would later complicate his diagnosis and treatment for brain cancer.
Despite many years of painful treatments for both cancers, Brian never lost the sense of humor and positive attitude that was his trademark. He was known for his practical jokes, and his many and varied interests including astronomy, Norse mythology, carving, tinkering, repairing things and cooking international specialties. He cared deeply for the welfare of children and the homeless population along with championing public safety.
He was preceded in death by a baby sister who lived only a few hours.
Brian is survived by his wife of 29 years, Debbie, and six children, Jeremy Jensen of Harker Heights, Rian (and Jodi) Jensen of Colorado City, Carissa (and Keaton) Hughes of Big Spring, Hannah Jensen of Dallas, Mika Jensen and Mick Jensen of the home in Denton, and five grandchildren, Ryan Jensen, Arius Jensen, and Maverick, McKoy and Crue Hughes. He is also survived by four siblings, Penny (and Tim) Sikorski of Flower Mound, Bruce (and Jeanne) Jensen of Forsyth, MT, Leslie (and John) Henson of Goodyear, AZ, and Jill Jensen (and Joe Vanderloos) of Billings, MT.
A memorial service will take place at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2022 at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Denton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to one of Brian's favorite causes, CASA of Denton County, Monsignor King Outreach Center, or Trinity Presbyterian Church.
