Bob Schutte, surrounded and supported by loving family and friends, fought metastatic melanoma for over a year before passing away quietly on Monday afternoon, October 13. He was known for being generous and appreciative, and in his last weeks especially, he expressed great appreciation for every act of help and kindness. This great attitude made a terrible illness easier for all. As one business associate said, "Bob was always a class act!"
Bob was born in Vernon, Texas on January 1, 1930, but his family moved to Odessa when he was very young. He had a wonderful life: He played football for Odessa High School and Odessa College, enjoyed being an air traffic controller in the Air Force stationed on Guam during the Korean War, graduated with a BBA from Texas Tech and was always successful in his many business ventures. During the 28-years he and his family lived in Hawaii, Bob owned and operated a life insurance agency and also was a Sales Manager for the Bureau of National Affairs for the Pacific. In addition, he was Stake President of the Kaneohe Hawaii Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and was well- known in the islands. After moving to Denton in 1994, he owned and operated "Bob Schutte and Associates Real Estate" at Keller Williams Realty.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lynn Schutte, son, Richard Eugene Schutte II, Hilo, Hawaii, daughters, Jill Lucas and Lark Dorrance, both of Denton and Kit Schutte of Dallas. He is also survived by his eight well-loved grandchildren and brother, Gene Schutte of Midland.
Memorial services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, October 18 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, at 3939 Teasley Lane in Corinth.
The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for their loving care of Bob.
Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
