Travis Sr.
August 1, 1935 – December 4, 2020
Billy John Travis, Sr. ("Bill"), 85, of Denton, TX, went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2020.
Bill was born in his home near Keller, TX to Henry Gilbert and Viola Sue (McNair) Travis. He graduated from Keller High School, various occupational training programs and Cooke County Architecture School. He was married to Virginia Ann Ables on February 15, 1957.
Bill was a devout Christian and was an example of strong faith to everyone around him. He was a deacon and served on numerous committees at his church. When asked what his favorite bible verse was, Bill would say, "Genesis through Revelation." Bill was also a member of the Stanfield Masonic Lodge No. 217 in Denton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Margie Judge and Betty Faulkner; and his baby brother, Jack Travis.
Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Travis of Denton; his sons Billy John Travis, Jr. and wife, Gay of Mt. Vernon, Bobby Jack Travis and wife, Jennifer of Hickory Creek; and Jim Travis and wife, Julie of Sherman. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Public viewing for family and friends will be held at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home in Denton on Tuesday, December 8th from 9am to 4pm. A private service for immediate family only will be held at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Argyle at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by a tax-exempt donation in Bill's name to the Denton Masonic Museum & Library, P.O. Box 731, Denton, TX 76202.
