After a one year long battle against the effects of a stroke, Billy George Hansel, 82, of Krum, died Friday, December 24, 2021 in Denton.

Billy George Hansel was born on July 6, 1939 in Frisco to Marvin O. "Dick" and Anna Laura (Bishop) Hansel. He was married to Dixie Vernette Johnson on June 9, 1985 in Krum. He served in the United States Army; enjoyed woodworking and gardening and retired from Albertsons Grocery. He worked for the nonprofit Friends of the Family and was an active member of his church, First Denton.

Billy is survived by his wife, Dixie Hansel of Krum; daughters, Melissa Tanner (Joe) of Denton, Jennifer Wyman (Jesse) of Aubrey, Lori Cupp (Brandon) of Irving; stepson, Kenneth Belken (Nicolle) of Krum; sisters, Mary Gayle Berend of Saginaw, Cheryl Rabe (Mark) of Carrollton; grandchildren, Allie, Jake, Jackie, Julie, Blake, Scarlett; one great-grandson, Lincoln; sister-in-law, Tish Barton of Winter Haven, FL; brother-in-law, Hal Johnson of Lake Mary, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Don Hansel.

Billy came close to being the perfect man. He understood what was important in this life on earth as evidenced by his love of God, family and friends. He loved the Lord and his prayer was to be more Christlike everyday. He understood and practiced service and humility. He was a devoted student of the Bible.

Billy had an intense love and gratitude for family and friends. He never missed a family gathering, celebration, or performance. He particularly loved Christmas and Easter. One could describe him as the nicest man one would ever meet.

Also woven throughout his life were artistry, craftsmanship, love of gardening, gospel music, and enthusiasm for the Dallas Cowboys. What an imprint he left on those who knew him! He will be incredibly missed.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at First Denton, 1100 Malone St., Denton. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery, Krum. A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the church before the service.

The family requests that masks be worn during the visitation and the funeral service.
