Obituary

Billie Fay Watson, loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, left for Heaven on April, 10, 2023.  Billie was born on February 12, 1934  in Roanoke, Texas; she was Raymond and Olive Willingham's oldest child. As the oldest daughter, she worked with her parents on the farm, helped watch and raise her brothers and sister, attended Denton Schools, and was a member of Central Baptist Church.

During Billie's senior year at Denton High School, her life changed. One glance. One seat on a bus: she met Frank. Frank Watson moved to Denton and was living with his Aunt Johnny Cole. Each found their one true life's partner. Billie and Frank were the first couple married in Cole Chapel, September 19, 1951. As partners, they raised three children; Billie loved gardening, collecting cookbooks, lace, trinkets, china, dolls and antiques. For several years, they would travel to Fair Park and set up an antique booth. Their weekends were always an adventure as they searched for treasures and just loved being out. The other love was her family. Sunday night dinners were hosted for forty years. It was the one night during the week where we all joined together in prayer and exchanged stories, life, and plans for the future. Billie loved to cook but her specialty was her pecan and cream pies. No one could compete with her. In addition to Sunday night dinners, Spring Break ski trips began in the early 90s. Many memories were made while driving to Colorado, skiing, and just spending time together.

Billie was a stay at home mother until she began working in the banking industry. Several banks benefited from her knowledge and she had hundreds of customers who would wait in line just to have Billie as their teller.  She even retired from banking only to return when asked.  Her last days of working in the banking industry ended when she was 70.

Her legacy will remain with her survivors, one daughter, Virginia Fowler of Denton; two sons, Bob Watson and his wife, Jackie of Denton, and Brian Watson and his wife, Lee Anne of Denton. 11 grandchildren, Brandon and Jennifer Fowler of Denton, Jordan and Dianne Fowler of Denton, Shannon and David Van Wye of Georgia, Macie and Michael Lopez of Denton, Morgan and Skylar Burt of Denton, Matthew Watson of Denton. 13 great grandchildren, William and Ashley Fowler, Alexis and Jonathan Kuykendall, Brady and Emma Fowler, Micah, Maxten and Mitchell Lopez, and Beatrice Burt; one great, great grandchild, Levi Kuykendall. She also has one brother, David Willingham of Carrollton.

Billie was preceded in death by her father and mother, Raymond and Olive Willingham, her beloved husband, Frank Watson, her sister, Jane Parker, her brother, Jimmy Willingham, her great-grandson, Gavin Frank Watson, and her granddaughter, Mattea Watson.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Friday, April 14, at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust Street, Denton, TX 76201. Funeral services will be held 10AM, Saturday, April 15 at Central Baptist Church, 2221 North Carroll Blvd, Denton TX 76201. Bob Watson, her oldest son, will be officiating the ceremony. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, 3801 Roselawn Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Charita for the two years of dedicated service, Monday-Friday and Pat for her help during the weekends. Without them, Billie's ability to stay in her own home surrounded by the many memories made over the years and her dog, Jack, would not have been possible. In addition, the family felt your thoughts and prayers during this time. The family will miss Billie terribly, but the joy of knowing she is in Heaven is undeniable. Billie knew Jesus and in her years of working in the church teaching Sunday school, fifty years of singing in the choir, and volunteering, yes, even driving the bus to pick up children to attend church, she would want you to also know the love of Christ. Billie is healed, happy and home. It is in Him, we find peace. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Central Baptist Church in loving memory of Billie Fay Watson: Vehicle Fund, 2221 N. Carroll Blvd, Denton, TX 76201.
