IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Billie Jean
Ponder
March 2, 1931 – April 6, 2024
Billie Jean Ponder of Argyle, TX went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at the age of 93. The youngest of six children, she was born on March 2,1931 in Huckabay TX to Ben F. and Bonnie Drennan. She graduated from Huckabay High School, and went on to North Texas State University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in early education. In 1959, she married the love of her life, William H. Ponder, and they enjoyed 48 years together.
Her passion was teaching, especially instructing young children about the word of God. In 1969, she founded one of the first Christian kindergartens in Denton at the Pearl Street Church of Christ. In the late 80's, she began teaching at Sullivan-Keller school under the Head Start program. She continued teaching into her late 60's when she retired—but even after retirement, she remained dedicated to sharing the word and the will of the Lord. Billie is remembered for her faith, for her devotion to her family, and for her energetic, uplifting laugh that brightened any room. She enjoyed doing crafts and loved to play games with her family and friends.
Billie is survived by her daughter, Penny and husband Charles Posey; son, Rex Ponder and wife Karie; four grandchildren, Trey Posey and wife Nubia; Heather Posey, Natalie Ponder, and Julia Ponder; and three great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Preston, and Owen Posey.
In lieu of flowers, Billie has requested memorials be made to North Texas Church of Christ.
