Bill W. Powers, 78, died Saturday September 11, 2010 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.
He was born to Stella and William "Skinny" Watters Powers on July 11, 1932 in Otto, TX. Bill was the light of his parents' life, and as an only child enjoyed the country and small town interaction of Riesel, Otto and Mart, Texas. His parents made sure he had a good education and sacrificed much to get him through Baylor University in Waco. Bill enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict in Japan. Bill was one of the persons to open the first IBM office in Austin, TX. Bill had a great history at MHMR in Houston. In 1989 Bill came to Denton and was the personnel director for HEA/THE management (now Daybreak) and served in that capacity for twenty-two years as Director of Human Resources.
Bill is survived by his beloved daughter, Tricia (Wengler) Rubin and his beautiful granddaughter, Alexa Rubin; his wife of twenty-two years, and soul mate, Marlene (Marti) Powers and special friends: Roger and Nancy Scott, Dagmar, Calvin Mack and "adopted" kid Bianca, "special guy" Cooper Griffith, special neighbor, Mrs. Betty Lette, Berle Hancox, Donna Rich and David Byers.
Bill lived a full and exciting life and worked until January 8, 2010 when he retired at age 77 1/2 years of age. Bill also leaves behind Marti; daughter, Dawn Bostwick and son David Hunter; and finally his "lap buddy" Mitzi the cat.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday September 15, 2010 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 703 N. Elm St., Denton. Visitation will be prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 1:45 PM at the church. A private interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park for family members only.
Pallbearers will be David Byers, Berle Hancox, Calvin Mack, Danny Harbor, Michael Daily, Cooper Griffith.
Bill wished for memorials to be made to the Humane Society and/or the Audubon Society of America. Bill's final wishes were that all management would put the "Human" back into Human Resources.
