Betty Jean Thornton, 81, of Denton, died Thursday, June 21, 2012 at Medical Center of Plano.
Mrs. Thornton was born on January 16, 1931 in Arrey, NM to Charles and Flossie Elisa (Smith) Clements. She was married to Martin Emory Thornton on January 27, 1952 in Las Cruces, NM. She was a member of the Singing Oaks Church of Christ. She received her Associate's Degree in Nursing from Cooke County College (NCTC) and had worked at Texas Woman's University and The University of North Texas as a Registered Nurse at the Student Health Centers.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betsy Joan Bowmer and Mike Bowmer of Euless; son and daughter-in-law, Martin Edwin Thornton and Jana Thornton of Aubrey; sister, Selma Koontz of Denton; brother, Calvin Clements of Lubbock; grandchildren; Samuel Bowmer, Mathew Bowmer, Kelly Thornton and Phillip Thornton; a great-grandchild, Tyler Bowmer; nephews, nieces and many others that she loved as her own. She was pre-deceased by her husband; sisters, Fleeta and Vada; brothers, Don and Alvin.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, June 24, 2012 at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, June 25, 2012 at Singing Oaks Church of Christ, 101 Cardinal St, Denton. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park.
