Betty T. Rood, age 82, of Flower Mound, Texas formerly of Reno and Sparks, Nevada and Durand, Michigan passed away Friday morning, September 1, 2006 in Lewisville, Texas. Mrs. Rood was born to C. W. and Catharine (Williams) Thomas, October 28, 1923 in Madison, Wisconsin. She was a member of the Covenant Presbyterian Church in Reno and the First Congregational Church in Durand. She was part owner of The Durand Express newspaper beginning in 1952 and retired from Nevada Bell Telephone Company after 21 years. Betty was very involved in her community and her church. She enjoyed singing in the choir and volunteering with the elderly, especially the Sparks Senior Center and other Reno/Sparks organizations. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William Edward Thomas, sister, Ruth Thomas Anderson and great grandson, Evan Owen Rood. She is survived by her daughter, Janice Ann Van Kleeck and her husband, Kent of Highland Village, Texas; son, Dale Owen Rood and his wife, Karen of Henderson, Nevada; brother, James Whitney Thomas and wife Donna of Joliet, Illinois; Sister-In-Law Audrey Thomas of Round Rock, Texas; grandchildren, Steve Rood, Gena Durrett, Kristin Guilford, Dustin Van Kleeck and D'Anna Salas; great grandchildren, Ian Scott Durrett, Thomas and Cameron Rood; step-grandchildren, Robert Trisler, Mike Bishop, step-great grandchild, Cody Christopher Guilford, along with several nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 4, 2006 in the chapel at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, Lewisville, Texas. A graveside service will be held Friday, September 8, 2006 at 2:00 p.m., in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Skokie, Illinois.
