Elizabeth (Betty) Lloyd Bailey, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2012 in Denton, Texas. She was born July 8, 1920 in Charleston, South Carolina to Leon Guillaume and Lydia Elizabeth (Beasley) DeBrohun. She graduated top of her class from high school in College Grove, Tennessee. Then, while on scholarship, she received a degree in English from Vanderbilt University. During this time, she was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. During World War II, she served as a Lieutenant in the U S Navy stationed in San Francisco, working in communications. Returning to Nashville, Tennessee, she studied Library Science at George Peabody College, where she met Joe
Harden Bailey. They were married on July 26, 1946 in Franklin, Tennessee.

Betty led a life of service: By profession, she was a librarian and teacher at the Selwyn
School in Denton. She and Joe served for a year under the Baptist Foreign Mission Board
as lay missionaries founding a school library in Monrovia, Liberia. Other services with
her husband, Joe, included libraries for Southmont Baptist in Denton and for Mayflower
Congregational in Flower Mound, Texas. Most recently, Betty set up the library at Asbury
United Methodist Church in Denton.

Betty's interests and hobbies included bird watching, old world decoupage, stamp
collecting, vocal and chime choirs, biblical studies, photography, sewing, gardening,
square dancing, DAR (North Texas Regent 1986), League of Women Voters, Denton County
Historical Museum, and travel in the US, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, Israel, Europe, and Africa. Betty is survived by daughters, Elizabeth Lloyd Bailey of Atlanta, Georgia and Margaret
Anne Bailey of Austin, Texas; brother, Leon Jarrell DeBrohun of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida; grandson, Stephen Christopher Cagle of Austin, Texas and San Francisco, California; and a multitude of friends to cherish her memory. In addition to her husband and parents, Betty is preceded in death by sisters, Emma Jean DeBrohun Butler of Washington, DC and Luella (Peggy) DeBrohun Winfree of Newport, NC; and
grandson, Benjamin Carter Cagle of Austin, Texas.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the many kind individuals who have assisted in Betty's care over the past several years.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 North Locust, Denton starting at 2:00pm with the funeral service following immediately at 4:00pm in the Chapel, the Reverend Rob Price, officiating. Burial will the next day at the Perry Cemetery in Carrollton, Texas. On
