Betty Appling, 66, of Denton passed away Thursday, November 13, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a loving Wife, Grandmother, Mother-in-Law, Teacher, Tutor, and Mentor. She had much yet to do and will be missed. She was born May 21, 1942 in Waco, Texas to Marvin E. and Edith Pearl (Williams) Lamar. She was married to William D. L. Appling on December 20, 1964 in Weatherford, Texas. She attended Weatherford High School and received a Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of North Texas. She was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, and served as a substitute teacher for the Denton Independent School District.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2008 at the Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas with Rev. Prentice Barnett officiating. Burial will follow. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, November 22, 2008, at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2200 N. Bell Ave., Denton. Memorials may be made to either the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, 5000 NE Spanish River Blvd., Boca Raton, FL 33431, or the Trinity Presbyterian Church, at the above address. The family will be at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home for visitation on Friday, November 14, 2008, from 6-8 pm
Mrs. Appling is survived by her husband, William D. L. Appling, daughter Rebecca Dannelly and husband Michael of Denton, son Steven L. Appling of Carrollton, granddaughter Baily Appling, all of Denton, and a grandchild expected to arrive in April.
