IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bertha E.
Wuenschel
January 17, 1943 – March 27, 2025
Bertha E. Wuenschel lived a life rich in love, family, and community. Growing up in Douglas, Arizona, she developed a strong bond with her 9 siblings, sharing the joys and challenges of being part of a large family. Her experiences in Texas and her subsequent moves shaped her into a person who valued connection and hospitality. She left us on March 27, 2025, at the age 82, born on January 17, 1943.
Her marriage to Doug Wuenschel marked the beginning of a beautiful partnership that lasted for decades. Together, they created a nurturing home for their two sons. Scott and his wife Dina, have two sons, Roman and Robert. Her younger son, Marc is married to Crystal Lining and is the proud father of two daughters, Isa and Mia Wuenschel. Bertha's commitment to her family went beyond just raising her children; she actively engaged in their lives, celebrating milestones and supporting them in their endeavors. In December of 2024 they celebrated their 59 years of marriage.
Scott and Marc, both of whom inherited their mother's warmth and enthusiasm, often reflect on the lessons Bertha imparted about the importance of family bonds and the joy of togetherness. Bertha took immense pride in her role as a grandmother, but her grandchildren—Roman, Robert, Isa, and Mia—affectionately called her "Honey" instead of the traditional "Grandma." This special title reflected the deep bond she shared with them and the unique love she poured into their lives. She loved to share stories, laughter, and life lessons, creating cherished memories that they will carry forward.
In her community, Bertha was known for her generous spirit and ability to bring people together. Her pool parties were legendary, where friends and family would gather to enjoy the sunshine, delicious food, and her famous Bertha Rita's. These gatherings were not just events; they were celebrations of life, love, and friendship, where laughter echoed, and lasting memories were forged.
Her professional life was equally fulfilling. Working at Good Samaritan for 20 plus years, Bertha and Doug dedicated themselves to helping others. Their commitment to their work reflected their caring nature, and they were well respected within their community for their contributions.
Bertha's journey was marked by resilience and an unwavering positive outlook, even in the face of life's challenges. She was a beacon of light for those around her, always ready with a kind word or gesture. Her legacy, characterized by love, laughter, and a deep sense of family, will continue to inspire all who knew her.
In May, Bertha will be laid to rest in Pirtleville, Arizona, next to her beloved mother and father, completing the circle of love that defined her life. Her passing leaves a profound void, but the love she shared and the lives she touched will forever honor her memory. As family and friends come together to celebrate her life, they will undoubtedly reflect on the countless ways Bertha enriched their lives, ensuring that her spirit lives on in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to ruffstartstx.org, a dog rescue, in her memory.
