Bernice Keeton Zachary, age 86, a former longtime resident of Lubbock, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in Lewisville, Texas.
She was born September 7, 1922 in Bonham, Texas to Ruel Claud Keeton and Oma Bell Magouirk Keeton. Bernice was a graduate of Lubbock High School and Sullins School for Girls. She married Rogstad Zachary who preceded her in death on July 21, 1995. She was a member of the Junior League of Lubbock and the Lubbock Women's Club. She and her husband, Rogstad were involved in the meat packing and feed lot business in Lubbock for 40 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda S. Goff and her husband, George of Flower Mound; son, Keeton D. Zachary and wife, Julie of Renton, Washington; grandchildren, Sara and Adam Zachary, Shelley Goff Condon, Gregory Goff, Zachary Goff and Sally Goff Cevallos and other extended family Francoise Keeton, Ralph Keeton, Claudia Keeton Parrish, Claudia Zachary , Steve Keeton, D'Ann Zachary Yeager, Jim Zachary, Martha Zachary Voyles and Gay Zachary Bewley. Bernice was preceded in death by her two brothers, Ralph Keeton, and Sidney Keeton.
Funeral service to celebrate Bernice's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 26, 2009, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. The family requests memorial contributions made to Meals on Wheels or to PBS.
