IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ben Clement
Armstrong, Jr.
June 29, 1946 – January 9, 2024
Ben Clement Armstrong, Jr. passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 9, 2024 at the age of 77 yrs. He was born in Fort Worth on June 29, 1946 to Ben C. Armstrong, Sr. and Iris Hester Armstrong. Ben was raised in Wichita Falls before moving to Gainesville where he graduated high school in 1964 and met his future bride, Sandra Kay Grundy. They married on July 15, 1966 and were married 57 yrs. Ben and Sandy lived several places around the metroplex before finally settling in Denton. He worked in many fields of business spending several years in the restaurant/fast food industry and was part of the team who opened and managed Denton's first McDonalds on University Drive. He went on to work 20+ years as an independent contractor for the Dallas Morning News home delivery in Dallas and State Circulation in Gainesville. He was employed with TXI as an aggregate dispatcher and later in the aggregates accounting dept. Ben served as the Facilities Manager for First Baptist Church in Lewisville and also worked in the kitchen there helping to prepare meals for mid-week services and special events. He "retired" after 10+ years as a Realtor here in Denton and then went on to serve 8 years on the Appraisal Review Board for Denton County.
Ben had a heart as big as Texas and always had an ear for listening. He loved being with friends and family – he just really enjoyed having a good time. As a youngster, Ben was an avid bowler and could deliver a wicked "hook". He continued to bowl until his back issues forced him to stop. Ben and Sandy square danced for several years where they made several longtime friends. He loved watching and cheering on his Dallas Cowboys, but could get really upset with them when they didn't play to suit him. Ben and Sandy enjoyed traveling when they could. Their favorite place to visit was Hawaii where they were blessed to be able to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Ben looked forward to his birthday every year because he got to have his birthday dinner at Lawry's Prime Rib. He didn't mind getting older, he just wanted that prime rib! One of Ben's greatest pleasures was serving as a Greeter at DBC. He worked one of the outside doors by the Children's Learning Center and loved it when the kiddos ran up to "high five" Mr. Ben.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents Ben Sr. and Iris Armstrong and his mother and father-in-law Kenneth and Marie Grundy. He is survived by his wife Sandy, sister Clara Rogers (Frank), nephew Frank Rogers (Pam), niece Amy Miller (Greg), grandnephews Corporal Brian Miller USMC, Gavin and Benji Rogers and grandnieces Raven Rogers and Kate and Stephanie Miller.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, January 24, 2024 in the chapel at Denton Bible Church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the building fund at Denton Bible Church.
