Avanell Henson Kimmey, 87, of Baytown, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022, in a North Texas health care center. She was born January 11, 1935, to parents, Woodrow W. Power and Thelma Sandras Power. Avanell lived in Baytown most of her life, and on June 27, 1955, she married the love of her life, Tommy Joe Kimmey, and began to raise a family.
Avanell adored being a Granny to her grandchildren and many 4-H and FFA members around Baytown. She could frequently be found volunteering at the Baytown Youth Fair. Alongside her husband, Tommy, they were one of the Baytown Youth Fair and Rodeo founding members. She made many lifelong friendships through her association with the BYF. Avanell truly believed in community, service to that community, and connecting to others through time well spent.
Avanell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tommy Kimmey; and her son, David Kimmey, also of Baytown.
Her survivors include sons, Kenneth of Lake Whitney, Kelley and his wife Anne of Marietta, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Melanie Kimmey, Kris Kimmey, James Kimmey, and Amanda Hoffard; great-grandchildren, Kenner Auld, Hunter Auld, Saylor Auld, Stetson Kimmey, Remington Fikes, Lexus Yow, Reagan Sheffield, Logan Sheffield, Jacee Moncivais, David, Moncivais and Conner Hoffard.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 14, 2022, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Baytown.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions can be made to the Baytown Youth Fair Scholarship Program in memory of Avanell Kimmey at P.O. Box 621, Baytown, Texas 77522.
