Arthur Lee Powell, 74, of Denton, died Tuesday March 10, 2009 at his home in Denton.Mr. Powell was born on June 27, 1934 in Celina, Collin County, TX to William Reed and Bertha Loraine (Mack) Powell. He was married to Clydene Thompson on February 11, 1955. He graduated from Denton High School in 1952 and joined the United States Air Force, serving in the Strategic Air Command both in Lincoln, Nebraska and England during the Korean War. Upon discharge he was employed at the Denton Fire Department until 1959. He later graduated from North Texas State University (UNT) in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He was employed at Moore Business Forms from 1960 until 1966. He later became employed at Texas Instruments, Inc. from 1966 until he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Eaglepointe Church in Denton.Mr. Powell is survived by his daughter, Karen Lynn Gentry of Denton; two sons, John A. Powell and his wife Shannon of Aubrey, David L. Powell and his wife Carrie of Denton; two sisters, Gwen Stanford of Azle, Nancy Cundiff of Granbury; four grandchildren, Jayme Gentry, Jill Gentry, Chris Gentry, Jack Lee Powell; one great granddaughter, Ashia Gentry.A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday March 14, 2009 in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton. Pastor Richard Norris will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday March 13, 2009 at the funeral home.Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
