Arthur (Art) Thompson, 86 of Denton, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Art was born in Gainesville, Texas on March 23, 1924 to Zachary Taylor Thompson and Minnie Lou (Hawk) Thompson. He spent his growing up years on the family farm fifteen miles north of Gainesville. He attended Loving Community School and Gainesville High School. He married Dottie (Dot) Smith on January 25, 1957 in Bryson, Texas. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton. In his early childhood he moved to Denton, working in the Journalism Dept. (Print Shop) at North Texas State University, now University of North Texas. In 1960 he entered the insurance field, first in life insurance, and in 1965 became co-owner of Mizell-Thompson Insurance. Art and Dot worked side by side, whether at home, on rental property, or in the insurance field, until their retirement in 2001. Art was a past-active member of the Noon Optimist Club for many years, and enjoyed Triangle Squares square dance club. He was a kind, loving and generous person and he loved his family and friends.
Funeral service for Art will be at 2 pm Monday, May 3, 2010 in the chapel of Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust, Denton, TX, with Rev. Cliff Feeler officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, also in Denton. The family will be at the funeral home for visitation on Sunday evening, May 2, from 6-8 pm.
He is survived by his wife Dottie, son Danny Thompson of Denton, and granddaughter Brandy S. Thompson of Denton. Mr. Thompson was preceded in death by his daughter Candy Fincher, his parents and his sister Mary Ann Bennett.
