IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anthony
Damico
February 6, 1934 – August 27, 2021
Anthony (Tony) Damico, born February 6, 1934 in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2021 at the age of 87 in Denton, Texas.
Tony's life-long passion for learning began early in his life. He loved and studied foreign languages, especially Latin and Greek. In 1955, Tony graduated from the Honor's Program at Xavier University in Cincinnati with a degree in Classical Languages. After graduation, he joined the Army serving in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1957 as a First Lieutenant. After leaving the Army, Tony returned to school, earning his Master's Degree in Classical Languages from Xavier University in 1965 and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Classical Languages from the University of Cincinnati in 1966.
Upon graduation from UC, Tony joined the faculty of North Texas State University in Denton, Texas where he spent his entire career as a professor of Foreign Languages and the Classics, Head of the Latin Department and Head of the Honors Program.
Tony was married for 65 years to his beloved wife Dorothy and was a loving and devoted father to his six children, Anthony (Jane), Stephen (Gricelda), Joan (Bill), Peter (Laurel), Teresa (Scott) and Patricia (David). He will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his love for teaching and for his students. He achieved the goal of instilling the importance of education in his children. Tony was protective of his friends and enjoyed his time spent in lively conversation with "the Geezers" and with the Gourmet club. He was happy watching a good football game while drinking from the "Damico fine china," a pickle jar, or while feasting on homemade ravioli at Christmas. Tony's wicked sense of humor will be missed.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Melva Damico, and his two brothers, Frank and David.
Tony is survived by his wife, six children, fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
