IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Annie Jewell
Mccarty
May 11, 1939 – October 12, 2021
Annie Jewell (Thomason) McCarty, 82, of Denton, died Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at Texas Health Presbyterian in Denton.
Annie was born on May 11, 1939 in Texarkana, AR to James Franklin Thomason, Sr. and Merline Carroll Thomason. The oldest of four children, Annie took pride of place as the only daughter of her beloved parents, and as sister to her three brothers. She married the love of her life Billy Don McCarty on October 11, 1958 in Denton, and the two were married 49 years at the time of his death on January 28, 2008. She and Bill were past members of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for many years. Annie believed passionately in education and the way in which it could change a person's life. While raising her two children, she returned to college and graduated from Texas Woman's University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968. She was the first of three generations of McCarty women to graduate from TWU; a fact which made her immensely proud. Her education led her to becoming a speech and hearing therapist for the Denton State School, as well as other local school districts.
Both Annie and Bill were members of Denton Independence Lions Club, serving various Lions organizations for over 30 years. She stood proudly by Bill's side as his Cabinet Secretary while he served as District Governor for Lions 2-E2 Texas traveling the state, country and internationally. Annie and Bill were member of Hitch 'n Pitch Camping Club for decades, and treasured their friendships made. They loved traveling the nation in their motorhome, and sharing this love with their children and grandchildren. Some of their most dear memories were made in Red River, NM, and on various other trips around the country.
Annie is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Mulkey of Denton; son, Robbie McCarty and wife, Lisa of Denton; grandchildren, Crystal Trejo of Denton, Brittany Hatchell, and husband, Ryan of Denton, Cole McCarty of New York, NY, Jordan Pichanick and husband, Brandon of Lexington, KY, Ross McCarty of Lindsborg, KS, and Samantha Mulkey of Denton; great-grandchildren, Neely and Tanner Trejo of Denton, Addison and Sutton Hatchell of Denton, Grayson Pichanick of Lexington, KY and a great granddaughter, Hayden arriving in February of 2022. She is also survived by her brothers, Toby Thomason, and wife Judy of Denton and David Thomason of Denton, as well as her beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy McCarty, her parents Merline and James Franklin Thomason, Sr., and her brother, James Franklin Thomason, Jr.
