Green Davis

LOUISE GREEN DAVIS (1922-2020)
Annie Louise Green Davis, born in Oglesby, Coryell County, Texas, passed at age 97 on May 4, 2020 in
Denton, Denton County, Texas.
She was born to Calvin Eugene Green and Annie Johnson Green on December 31, 1922. She was the
youngest of nine children, all of whom predeceased her. Louise's father was a farmer, and her mother
was a homemaker who encouraged each of her children to work toward a college education.
After Louise received her bachelor's degree from North Texas State College, she met Bruce Davis in
Houston, Texas, where they both worked for the US Veterans Administration. They married in 1947,
moved to Denton the next year, and in 1949 built their home on Ector Street. They had two daughters,
Susan and Judith, who preceded Louise in death.
Louise's greatest happiness was working with her husband to build an esteemed law practice.
In 2010 she made an enduring contribution to regional ecology and recreation through her gift of 32
acres of pristine family land, to enlarge Denton's Clear Creek Nature Center.
In 2001 she donated her Grandfather's 1864 Civil War handcuffs to the Coryell Museum and Historical
Center, to advance the cause of peace among men.
She is survived by nieces, nephews and friends, all welcomed and nurtured throughout her generous
life.
Louise was a long-time member of St. Barnabas Church of Denton. Her memorial service in the Church will be scheduled at a later date, when community health concerns have abated.
