Anna Kate Stallings Wells Witherspoon, 84, passed away on November 11, 2015 at her home in Denton, Texas.
Anna Kate was born January 7, 1931 in Gage Oklahoma to Cullen Preston and (Florence) Edith Stallings. Her childhood years were spent with half-sister Patricia, brother Donald Frank, and sister Mary Rue. After the death of her father in 1938, the family remained in the Gage home with family support of her uncle and aunt, Eddie and Terry Lee Barrett. Anna graduated from Gage High School and married Hilton Wells (1950). They had one adopted son Steven Wells. Anna Kate retired from the banking field in which she worked for over forty years. Throughout her life Anna Kate nurtured and retained her childhood friendships. "The girls" were still having slumber parties well into their sixty-five years together. After Hilton's death, Anna married Lee Witherspoon (1993). Lee was her first date when she was sixteen and they reconnected sixty five years later for many more dates. Road trips to visit family in Sacramento, CA, enjoy Lake Tahoe, and eat Apple Hill pie were treasured experiences for them. She loved listening to the country music of Hank Williams, Conway Twitty and Eddy Arnold. Anna Kate and Lee lived in Gage, OK in the Stallings family home of her youth for fifteen years, They spent the last four years in Denton, Texas until Lee's passing in 2012. Lee's grandson and his wife, Clinton and Courtney Page have been lovingly assisting and caring for Lee and Anna in recent years. Anna was a dedicated member of the Baptist church both in Texas and Oklahoma.
She is survived by her son Stephen Wells and his five children; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and David Koupal of Shingle Springs CA; Lee's daughter and her husband, Rhonda and Jim Page; and Lee's grandson and his wife, Clinton and Courtney Page and Morgan and Macie Page of Denton, TX; as well as four generations of extended family in California.
Anna Kate was preceded in death by her husband Lee Witherspoon (2012); her brother and his wife, Donald (2009) and Carol (1988) Stallngs; her half-sister Patricia Stallings Arrington (1971); and first husband Hilton wells (1993)
Anna Kate is remembered as always kind, tolerant of others, and a cherished friend and sister.
She will be buried in the Stallings family plot in Gage, Oklahoma.
