IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Amelia
Schmidt
May 12, 1975 – March 19, 2021
Amelia "Amy" Schmidt, who lived and loved in Denton, Texas, became an angel on March 19, 2021 at the age of 45. She was surrounded by her loving wife, parents, George and Sallie Schmidt of Fort Smith, AR, and her abundance of friends.
She was born in Woodward, OK, on May 12, 1975. As the oldest of 3, Amy learned at an early age how much she loved to work with children, since she had such a lasting influence on her younger sister, Dorothy (Schmidt) Thompson of Naples, FL and brother Daniel Schmidt of Littlerock, CA.
Forever missing her light, joy, happiness, and consideration remains the love of her life Vicky Hendrix, who supported her through thick and thin, and her beloved dog Harley. Along with her parents, siblings, extended family, and friends who love her, Amy impacted everyone with her contagious laughter, even those at Nelson Elementary and Amy's other teaching families over the 17 years of her academic career.
Teaching was Amy's passion, and though she didn't have children, every child that walked through her door became her own. She would spend countless hours of her own time on nights, weekends, and over the summer to decorate her room and make fun activities that kept her kids engaged, excited, and enthusiastic about learning.
Before becoming a teacher Amy served her community as a 911 dispatcher for Texas Woman's University where she earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Sociology. Amy then advanced her career as a 911 dispatcher by moving to the Denton County Sheriff's office.
A celebration of Amy's rewarding and fun filled life will be held at her home in Denton, Texas on Sunday March 21, from 2 to 6 pm in her remembrance. In lieu of gifts her wife requests plantings of vibrant colors for the flowerbed.
