IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Altus Loy
Berry
March 11, 1936 – January 13, 2022
Altus Loy Berry, 85, a resident of Ponder Texas, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2022. Loy was born on March 11, 1936, in Dawson, Texas to James Hobert Berry and Georgia Alice (Gan) Berry. He was preceded in death by his father Hobert Berry and mother Alice (Gan) Berry, and his brother George Berry and sister Jackie Hodges.
Loy is survived by his wife, Beverly, of 60 years; his son Curtis Berry and wife Susie Berry; his daughter Tina Dufrene, who also happens to have his same birthday on March 11 th . In addition, he has 6 grandchildren including Curtis Joe Berry, David Berry, Steven Mozingo, Brian Mozingo, Crystal McIntosh and Chelsie Cabrera, and he also has 9 loving great-grandchildren.
While living in Stamford, Texas he graduated high school in 1955 at the Stamford High School.
Achievements included playing the cornet in the marching band and while still in high school, Loy and several of his classmates joined the National Guard in 1954 where he served 8 years until 1962 achieving the rank of sergeant.
In the year of 1961 Loy married his beautiful bride Beverly on the 3 rd of June at the Calvary Baptist Church in Stamford, Texas and just this last year of 2021, the two of them celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary.
In 1966 Loy and his young family moved from the west Texas area to start a new life in Denton, Texas where Loy started a career in air conditioning at the Texas Woman's University. Later he moved on to the Millard Heath Company and then also to Cloud Air.
Loy's hard work was a big influence on his son who in 1978 started working with him at the age of 16 where they worked together almost daily during the Millard Heath and Cloud Air days. During these times, Curtis, and everyone else, learned that Dad could fix most anything.
So, in 1996, this led to Curtis starting the Trinity Air Conditioning a/c business. Soon after Loy came to work with his son for another 14 years total, and with his help, Trinity Air has remained a successful business for a whopping 26 years now.
Since 1985, Loy and Beverly have lived in Ponder, Texas and are now active members of the Highland Baptist Church. Church was always like a second home to them or maybe first home.
For many years they also loved spending their summer vacations in Colorado camping in their 5 th wheel camper and having fun times with lots of their friends. Loy also loved to go fishing on his numerous fishing trips.
During Loy's retirement years, Loy's talents continued to shine with his woodworking skills making many beautiful woodworking pieces of art that were highly coveted by all. He donated many of the pieces to the Skiles family reunion auction that helped fund a lifetime family tradition of his and Beverly's family. His daughter Tina has also shown some of these same artistic talents as her Dad and Mom both have with her many drawings.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Highland Baptist Church in Denton. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be sent to the Highland Baptist Church renovation fund at 600 Thomas St. Denton TX 76201.
