Alexander Norman Harrison passed away on May 28, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. He was born in College
Station, TX, October 12, 1922 to B. Frank and Nelia Frances Harrison. The family moved
to Stillwater, OK, in 1930 where Norman attended public schools and graduated from
Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science and Masters degrees.
Norman was in the United States Army Military Police from 1942 to 1944. He was stationed
in Ft Lewis, WA, prior to serving in North Africa. His college sweetheart, Wanda Donella
Hanmer, from Carney OK, went to Tacoma WA, where they were married in the First Methodist
Church on May 28, 1943, prior to his going overseas. Today was their 70th wedding
Anniversary.
Donella and Norman moved to Denton, TX in 1949 where he taught in the Business Department
of North Texas State Teachers College which is now the University of North Texas. They
immediately joined the First United Methodist Church. Norman served on various Church
Boards, ushered, and belonged to the Christians Home Builders and later the Bungalow
Sunday School Class. He was a long time member of the Denton Optimist Club, helped to
form a baseball club for youth, loved to sail his Catalina 22 boat. He loved to travel,
play bridge, and joined the Country Club so he could play a golf.
Norman so survived by his wife of 70 years, Donella, his three sons Norman Don Harrison
his wife Janice, David Russell Harrison his wife Linda, and Fred Mark Harrison. There
are also four grandchildren - Bobby Harrison, Jay Glenn-Harrison, Erin Suzuki, and Kelly
Briggs: there great grandchildren, Cooper, Hudson, and Tucker Harrison. He was preceded
in death by his parents, B Frank and Nelia Frances Harrison; his grand daughter,
Elizabeth Harrison' and his brothers B. Frank Harrison, his wife Aleen and Thomas
Harrison, and his wife Dorothy.
Visitation will be at Mulkey Mason funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday May 30, 2013.
The Funeral will be Friday in Cole Chapel, First United Methodist Church at 1:00 pm, on
May 31, 2013 followed by interment at Roselawn Cemetery. Pall bearers will be Wallace
Batey, Terry Brantley, John Carpenter, Jim Mackey, Ray Rupert, Lee Vestal, Ernest
Wendling, and Terry Hetler.
