Obituary

Abigail Irene-Marie Mattson, 31, of Denton, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2014.

Born in Denton, Texas, on May 16, 1983, Abigail attended Denton Public Schools. She graduated from Ryan High School in 2002. In May 2013, she graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington with a degree in Neuropsychology. It was her desire to work with troubled children and adolescents.

An extraordinary person, Abigail possessed a life-long fascination with human nature. She was an advocate for social justice, and a friend to those who were marginalized and alone. She always remained firm in life, choosing to live by what her conscience dictated. She loved her family and friends fiercely and unconditionally. Abigail would celebrate with those in their happiest moments and offer comfort to those in pain and sorrow.

Abigail was known for her beauty, but her beauty could not be described as any one particular quality; it was in her ability to be charming, witty, interesting, and curious in a thousand different ways. Her beautiful nature also included an impeccable, fearless sense for fashion, an amazing memory for film quotes, a love for good champagne, and an incredible talent for impersonation. Abigail brought us great joy.

Abigail was preceded in death by her brother, Matt Mattson; her grandmother, Irene Belew Wilson (Bunny); and her father, Ivan H. Mattson, II. She is survived by her mother, JoLynn Huggins; step-father, Tom Huggins; sister, Rachel Christine Mattson; step-sisters, Sarah Hubbard and Stephanie Hubbard; cousins, Jacob, Annie, and Belew Gallo; great-cousin, Harper Gallo; uncle Andrew Mattson; cousin Taylor Mattson; dearest pet companion, Tristessa (Tess); and close friends, Jenny Moore, Angela Hodgson, Alison Plunkett McStravick, Stephanie Gist Popovici, Susan Holl, Andrea Avery Ray, Sarah Young Franks, April Kinser Keller, Stanton Stephens, Greg Yeager, and many, many other sweet friends that Abi loved with all her heart.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Mulkey Mason Funeral Home in Denton. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 1:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, Denton, Texas. Interment will follow at Cooper Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jacob Gallo, Lucas Holl, Ryan Everett, John Michael Hoenig, Josh Kinser, Michael Popovici, Kevin McStravick, and John Boerner.

Donations may be made in Abigail's memory to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
