Obituary

Jasmine Rudd Burks (Jap) was born November 15, 1908 in Greenwood Texas to J.P. and Pauline Rudd. She passed away in Denton on January 7, 2006.

At the age of twelve she moved to Denton to attend the North Texas Demonstration/Training School. She later graduated with bachelors and masters degrees from North Texas State College where she served on the Campus Chat, was active as a Green Jacket and yell leader and a campus beauty. . She taught school in Henrietta, Navarro, Denton and at NTSC.
\" In 1932 she married Joe Burks and they settled in Denton. In 1949 she and her lifetime neighbor Ruby Maddocks opened Young Moderns, a children's shop which was in business for 14 years. As a member of First Christian Church for 85 years, Jap has been on the diaconate, served as Sunday school teacher, and has been a member of the Rachel Circle of Christian Women's Fellowship. For over 60 years she was active in the Varied Studies Department of the Aerial Club, where she was a charter member. As a Golden Eagle she remained a loyal fan of UNT.

Survivors include a son, John W. Burks and his wife Patsy of Richardson, a daughter, JoAnn Boyd of Denton, a grandson, Ben Boyd of San Diego, and her caregiver, Dixie Fulton as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband .

Service will be held at 11 A. M. Tuesday, January 10, 200-6 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Rodney McClung, Dr. Oran Nabors, and Dr. Charlotte Nabors, officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home is coordinating arrangement.
